L. Russo Abstract

The author of this contribution underlines the importance of the anastatic reprinting of the Federico Commandino publication De gli elementi d’Euclide, Urbino 1575.

For over two millennia the transmission of the demonstrative method has essentially been based on Euclid’s Elements. In recent decades the progressive expulsion of the demonstrative method from the various fields of study has been accompanied by a continuous weakening in skills of reasoning. The author intends to demonstrate that the modern science has come into being through the retrieval of ancient science, and an essential, but often forgotten link between ancient and modern knowledge is supplied by the Italian Renaissance.
