P. Bertoncini SabatiniAbstract

The present paper deals with a document from the private archive of Giacomo Sardini, in which the famous erudite man illustrates his firm opposition to the project of Giovanni Lazzarini for the opening of a new square in Lucca (1807). The problem of the demolition of several buildings to free up the space necessary for the construction of the work and its characteristics are taken in consideration under many points of view: economic, social and especially architectural. The document testifies Sardini's trust in Vitruvian principles that govern any intervention in the field of architecture.
